How best to help back our Alma mater?

Hey, pl suggest some graceful and good ways of offering help to ones old school? We would like to explore elegant means of giving it back to our grand old schools that helped us scale heights. How best to structure the help such that everybody (almost) is kept happy. Would like to hear real life examples that worked.
